As you know from my last blog, I am traveling the world and as I prepared for the trip it made me wonder – are we informing everyone of too much information about our lives? Think about the planning involved. For example, I set up my office phone with a new voicemail message about the length of my trip and my inability over the next 10 days to respond to messages. My “auto responder” on my email has also been set up to tell business associates that I am traveling and will have little or no access to my messages. This poses a great security risk.  When you think of the number of people that have your email address, some you know and many, many more that you do not know, it raises the question of security.  Do you really want the world to know that you will be away from home for an extended period?  Leaving your possessions unattended such as your car, all your personal property, data, and business information, nearly inviting someone to walk in and abscond with it? I am fortunate enough to have my family at home, so my home is never really empty and a Dalmatian that you would not want to cross unless you like being bitten.  But this is not the case for many people. Creating an “open book” life made me think today and might be worth reconsidering for a future security article in Global Traveler. -Fran Gallagher, publisher and CEO
