The Pains of Moving

For just more than a week, I have been in the process of moving. It has been intense. I am not doing it alone, but it’s easy to overlook all of the little things that go into making a move successful until it’s crunch time.

My new place is only about 15 minutes from work. This is a pretty inconsequential difference, but it is still nice to know I will be closer to the office. At the same time, the new apartment is just about 20 minutes from my current place. Moving all my stuff, though, is the least stressful part.

Last weekend we called and set up a new Comcast account, so the internet is up and running. We also had to call to set up a new PECO account for electricity and get insurance. None of these on their own is that big of a deal, but altogether in a tight timeframe, they build up.

Then we started to realize all of the things we need. I have been stockpiling essentials: kitchenware, utensils, flatware and more. I have a couch as well as two different televisions, a dining set, ottoman, bookshelf and coffee table, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. This weekend we went out and got a bunch of other things we need for the new place. It’s kind of funny: No matter how many times you move, the more you walk through stores, the more you realize how much you still need.

Now, I just need to actually move my stuff in!
