Talking Travel with Jennifer Broome

by John Wroblewski

Feb 24, 2024

Earlier this year at the Travel & Adventure Show, the first session I attended was Jennifer Broome‘s talk on solo travel. Upon the conclusion, I approached Broome to set up this Talking Travel interview.

Based in Denver, Broome is a meteorologist as well as host and reporter on travel, weather and the outdoors. Her areas of expertise include adventures, solo travel, U.S. national parks, road trips, luxury travel and sustainable tourism. She has been to all 50 states, 47 countries and more than 200 National Park Service sites (with a goal of visiting all 425).

Having a career goal from an early age, Broome cites Jane Pauley as an inspiration. Just as Pauley was Chicago’s first woman co-anchor on a major station, Broome became one of the first female chief meteorologists for a local television station in the country.

With a growing passion for travel, Broome began doing other television segments. She was often a one-woman show, creating them start to finish. Relying on her journalism degree, she started blogging and eventually became a freelancer.

Living up to her billing as a travel and outdoors expert, Broome discussed lesser-known areas in the country and worldwide. I could see the excitement in her eyes as she went into fascinating details about those areas and activities. She gave advice on solo and group travels.

Weather limited her possibilities while she was in Chicago for the convention, but Broome usually has a plan in each city. In Chicago she hoped to add more National Park Service sites to her résumé. Perhaps if back next year, she will have better weather luck.

Before then, she has several more stops on the Travel & Adventure Show circuit as well as an upcoming trip to Africa. She also is working on a book to be released later this year.

Talking Travel is an interview series on Global Traveler. Subscribe to the GT YouTube channel to be notified of all future interviews and other travel-related videos.
