Travel photographer Chase Guttman honed his craft at an early age. As the son of an award-winning photographer, Guttman followed his father’s career while creating his own path.

Guttman started earning awards and recognition at an early age. Among other achievements, Guttman is a three-time recipient and first American to win Young Travel Photographer of the Year. After a couple internships, he became a social media influencer who was invited to the White House for making “a positive impact on his community.” He also became an expert in drone photography.

While still in college, Guttman wrote The Handbook of Drone Photography, one of the first books written on that topic. Published in 2017, the 208-page book is a do-it-yourself guide to drone photography from the best in the business. In addition to the instructions and tips, the book contains many examples of the stunning photographs Guttman obtained with drones.

Last week I interviewed Guttman about his work and travels. Because of his work, Guttman’s travels include six continents, all 50 U.S. states and more than 100 countries. He revealed a few under-the-radar locations. With that many places visited, Guttman still has a few bucket-list destinations. He discussed those spots as well as his favorite places in his native New York.

As one of the pioneers of drone photography, Guttman changed the whole photography field. Through use of drones, previously unseen places and angles are routinely captured.

What is next for Guttman? With nothing specifically planned, Guttman will stay on the cutting edge of photography. While he has no immediate plans for another book, Guttman did not rule one out in the future.
