The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champions once again! The city wasted no time celebrating in true Philly fashion. On Friday, Feb. 14 — fittingly, Valentine’s Day — the City of Brotherly Love turned to a sea of green for miles as fans flooded the streets to revel in the victory.
I headed down to South Philadelphia bright and early at 7:30 a.m., determined to secure a prime spot to watch the team and coaches roll by on their floats. With the parade kicking off at 11 a.m., my family and I gave ourselves plenty of time to stake out a great view and soak in the electric atmosphere before the celebration began.
From fans tossing footballs across Broad Street to grilling hot dogs right on the sidewalk, the energy in the city was absolutely unreal. There were constant chants of “E-A-G-L-E-S,” strangers high-fiving like lifelong friends, and people climbing anything and everything just to get a better view of the parade. Everywhere I looked, people were celebrating in their own way — some with creative signs that made me laugh a little too hard.
The Eagles made their way down Broad Street in no time, with confetti filling the air and the crowd growing louder by the second. Jalen Hurts, as cool and composed as ever, took in the sea of fans while Saquon Barkley amped up the energy, hanging out the window of an Eagles-themed ATV with a few of his other teammates. The whole thing felt more like a massive block party rather than an official parade. I even high-fived Jordan Mailata!
By the time the team passed us, my voice was gone, my phone was dead, and reality started sinking in — the 2024 football season was officially over. Not ready to call it a day, we headed to Fishtown to meet up with friends and watch the team’s speeches, held at Philadelphia Museum of Art, and kept the celebration going.
It was the best day celebrating the well-deserved win for the Philadelphia Eagles. I am already looking forward to next year’s parade.
