Every time I travel to Singapore I make it a priority to try something new, whether it be a new restaurant, such as Wolf Gangs at Marina Bay Sands, or an art exhibit like the National Gallery Singapore, and I have to say my last trip was a success.
I arrived at Changi Airport at 10 p.m., and the beauty of Singapore is you’re always minutes from any given destination, so I arrived at the Swissotel Stamford in 15 minutes.
The Swissotel Stamford and the Fairmont Singapore are separate properties, connected via a large mall, and share the same spa and several restaurants.
The Swissotel lobby was still busy with travelers coming back from a stroll or late dinner. While waiting my turn to check in I was able to check out the large lobby, which boasts the Lobby Court and beautiful local flowers. Note: The elevators are heavily trafficked and take about five minutes for each ride.
My Classic Room was on the upper floor, featuring amazing views of Marina Bay. Unfortunately my room had a faulty air conditioner and after several attempts to fix it, I upgraded and moved. The staff was professional and friendly, and due to a full day of meetings, they offered to move everything for me while I was out.
My new Stamford Crest Suite was not only cool but also beautiful. The entry way leads you into a living space with floor-to-ceiling windows, a couch, lounge chair and large working desk facing a flat-screen TV. The open-area bathroom features a powder room, opening up to a white and dark-jade marbled bathroom with double sinks, a full vanity, stand-alone shower and large spa tub with open shutters overlooking the bedroom. The entire bathroom provides excellent lighting. The closet area off the bathroom had its own dedicated lounging couch and full-length mirror.
Through double doors in the living room is the bedroom with floor-to-ceiling windows offering excellent natural light and amazing views of the city. While working from my king-sized bed I watched an intense thunderstorm envelope the city followed by sunshine not long after.
One of the best parts of the hotel is the service. Guests have access to the Swiss Executive Lounge, and suite guests have access to the “Living Room” on the 65th floor, featuring a private, comfortable atmosphere for tea, breakfast or evening cocktails. For suite guests, there is also a small private gym.
There are a number of dining options between the two properties. For a unique experience, Equinox is located on the top floor and offers breathtaking 365-degree views and modern European dishes. If you can squeeze in a lunch at Mikuni, located in the mall area, I recommend the bento boxes for a tasty lunch in an elegant business atmosphere. For after-work experiences, I recommend Antidote in the lobby of the Fairmont, an edgy hotspot for guests and locals offering locally crafted cocktails.
After another successful trip of meetings and exploring new sites, I’m already looking forward to coming back. Have you been to Singapore lately?
