As many of us prepare to head out on road trips and vacations for the holiday weekend, I’m also looking ahead to a mid-August trip I’m in the midst of planning. While we still wait to reschedule our honeymoon, my husband and I decided we’d like to take a long weekend trip to celebrate our first anniversary on Aug. 15.

In the last few months, Maine has been in my head. From various press releases I’ve received and seeing friends and family there on social media to commercials for Maine on the TV screen, the state has been on my mind. So we decided to plan a quasi-road trip to Maine to celebrate our milestone.

I say “quasi” because we are going to take a night flight to Boston before renting a car and driving the coast of Maine for the duration of our stay. Day One will be in Kennebunkport. As of now, we’re planning on the Boothbay Harbor area for our second day before driving to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor for the next two days. On Monday we’ll drive back to Boston for an evening flight home, and I’d like to make a lunch stop in another of Maine’s fabulous coastal villages.

With summer travel booming, I know we have to start making tour and dining reservations soon. Boats will be a central focal point as we’d like to go on a lobster tour, whale watching and more. And all of this leads to the title of my blog … send me your suggestions for a perfect Maine getaway!

Coffee Warehouse in Rotterdam to Be New Home of Dutch Photo Museum in 2025

There is no doubt Rotterdam is one of Europe’s most design-friendly cities, especially when it comes to restoring historic buildings for modern uses. One example is the early 20th-century Pakhuis Santos, the Santos “coffee” Warehouse in Rotterdam’s port area. This former coffee warehouse is currently being transformed into the new home of Nederlands Fotomuseum (Dutch Photo Museum) and will reopen to the public in mid-2025. The architectural firms involved in the design and transformation include Renner Hainke Wirth Zirn Architekten from Hamburg, together with WDJARCHITECTEN from Rotterdam.

Where to Celebrate New Year’s Eve in the United States

When you hear New Year’s Eve and “party” in the same sentence, your mind likely goes straight to New York City’s Times Square, where the iconic ball drop marks the end of a year and the start of another. Watching this exciting event from the comfort of your living room is much different than actually being there, and it’s no secret a trip to New York City for New Year’s Eve is quite pricey, not to mention crowded … very crowded.
