I finally made it to Saguaro National Park. It was so much more impressive than I ever imagined. It’s like seeing the sequoias for the first time; there’s nothing like the gems nature creates.
Exploring the park even during this time of year was really best done from the car. We were there just two weeks ago during the Easter weekend, and temperatures were already in the 90s. I cannot stress enough how important it is that you hydrate, and do it more than you really think you need. The desert is no joke. We took some very short walks along marked trails to see some of the terrain and see if we could catch a glimpse of some wildlife. To my chagrin, there were no gila monster sightings, but we got our fill of epic cacti and desert flora.
As I mentioned in my prep for Saguaro blog, Saguaro National Park is one of the smallest parks in the United States, so we saw what we wanted in eight hours (split over two days). Outside of the nature exploration, as you may already know, Tucson has a great food and art scene. Some of my favorite discoveries on this trip:
The Best 23 Miles of Mexican Food in the United States – UNESCO City of Gastronomy. This is one thing I didn’t come across during my trip prep research, and what a pleasant surprise! Not sure if I’m biased because I’m Mexican, but, man, was the food at a whole different level.

Proudly exploring a small bit of the 23 miles of some of the best Mexican food in the United States
One of the best eateries according to Yelp! This has “winning brunch date” written all over it. Just have a look at some of the delicacies we enjoyed.

Baked fresh every day
A trip with art and traditional architecture just makes for the best trip in my book. This is Ettore “Ted” DeGrazia’s old studio and home; walk through the grounds and enjoy a beautiful collection of his art.
