Last weekend my friends and I headed to Lincoln Financial Field for the Philadelphia Eagles game against the Buffalo Bills. We got there early so we could have a tailgate filled with drinks, food and fun with friends. We went to the game to celebrate my friends’ — Jen and Andrew — birthdays.
The weather called for rain in the late afternoon through night, so during the whole tailgate we were praying for the rain to hold off for the game. Unfortunately, about 45 minutes before we were to head into the game, it started to rain. Luckily we came prepared with ponchos just in case. We didn’t let the rain stop us, though. We put on our ponchos and walked toward the stadium, ready for a fun rain game.
Despite the crowds, it surprisingly didn’t take us too long to get into the stadium. Once we got in, we used the bathroom, grabbed a drink and headed to our seats — which were amazing, by the way. We sat right behind the end zone in the 100 level. The game started off great; the Eagles scored during the first quarter and held the Bills to zero. The second quarter went downhill, as it seemed like the Eagles forgot how to play and allowed the Bills to score 17 points.
Right before halftime my friend Tricia and I needed to use the bathroom, so we decided to leave early to make sure we missed the halftime rush. Next, we headed to get another drink and crab fries because you can’t go to a Philadelphia sporting event without them. When we got back to our seats, we still had some time left during halftime to sit down and enjoy our Chickie & Pete’s.
The third quarter started off slow with just the Eagles scoring seven points. The fourth quarter is when the game started to pick up, and so did the rain. The rain really started to come down, but it seemed like it made the Eagles play a little better. They caught up but ended up trailing at the very end of the game, in the position to tie it with a long field goal. It all came down to kicker Jake Elliott to make a 59-yard field goal in the pouring rain. Elliott has made further kicks before, but with the rain as an added factor, it made it more difficult. To no surprise, he made it and the clock ran out, sending the game to overtime.
The Bills won the coin toss, so they got to start with the ball. Luckily, the Eagles held them to a field goal and were able to get the ball back to head down the field to try for a touchdown. After a nerve-wracking couple of plays, they were a couple yards from the end zone, and our trusty quarterback, Jalen Hurts, took advantage of a couple of good blocks from the O-line and stormed into the end zone with ease to win the game. The crowd went wild! I was so happy they won.
Even though it was raining and cold the whole game, it was totally worth staying to see overtime and the celebration from both the team and the crowd. Here’s to a winning season!
