When I tied the knot in September, I knew I wanted to treat the guests of my Chicago destination wedding to a dining experience at my absolute favorite restaurant: The Signature Room at the 95th. Ever since my first visit in 2011, this venue has been my go-to place every time I’m in Chicago. It’s where my husband and I went on our first “fancy” date and also where we celebrated our engagement, so it just made sense to celebrate our nuptials there as well. The Signature Room, if you haven’t had a chance to visit, offers amazing views of the city and lake in an elegant setting, along with a menu of sumptuous options. Our group of family members and close friends were given an elevated table, providing the right amount of privacy without shutting us off from the atmosphere of the restaurant. The private event menus we were given to choose from during our planning process were varied enough to allow suitable options for everyone, from children to more refined palates. Rounds of drinks started off the evening, along with the chilled seafood appetizer. Not exactly a fan of raw seafood, I passed, but our guests seemed to enjoy it. The salad and soup course was standard fare, but the main entrées and desserts were what really wowed me, as always when dining at The Signature Room. My filet was cooked perfectly (even though I’m one of those people who order my steak well done), and the potato croquette, mushrooms and bourbon sauce really played well together. Regardless, as a native Kentuckian, I can never say no to anything with bourbon. Dessert was a variety of options, including key lime cheesecake and a decadent chocolate mousse cake. The staff, as always, blew me away with their professionalism, skill and gracious hospitality. They really did their best to make our special occasion even more so with their little added extras, such as creating a custom dessert for my husband and me, presenting us with a wedding gift from the restaurant and humoring our requests for the piano player. If I ever get the chance to host another event in Chicago, I’ll definitely be using The Signature Room at the 95th. While they could rely on their great views and breathtaking location to fill tables, they ensure visitors really receive a full experience by also providing an elegant ambience, excellent service and spectacular menu. — Holly Riddle, marketing & sales assistant
