Printers Row Lit Fest

The 39th annual Printers Row Lit Fest took over several blocks of downtown Chicago last weekend. More than 100,000 bibliophiles visited the largest outdoor literacy celebration in the Midwest.Lit Fest

While I appreciate the convenience of an audio book or Kindle, I still love the look, feel and smell of print. Thousands of books were on display throughout the event. Many authors were also on site, happily discussing their books.Lit Fest

Mari Georgeson was the first author I encountered, after hearing her ask if I liked sarcastic humor. While Georgeson’s Hate Hunters delves into serious themes of guilt, shame, punishment, innocence and redemption, it does so with enough satire to keep it thought-provoking rather than preachy. Hate Hunters delivers the sarcastic humor Georgeson first mentioned, as well as a good look into mankind.Lit Fest

A few booths away, I came across Wisconsin author Justin O. Rose. Ariel’s Tear: A Tale of Rehavan was Rose’s first novel after publishing several short stories and poems. Tales of Rehavan grew into a popular four-book series.Lit Fest

As I meandered through the fest, I noted the differences in booth displays and authors’ attempts to engage. Georgeson and Rose were two examples of the best there. Attending dozens of fests and conventions every year, I always applaud those who put effort, creativity and personality into their display and pitch. Lit Fest

I left Printers Row Lit Fest with several hardcover books and a list of several more I needed to buy. Printers Row Lit Fest is paradise for book lovers like me.Lit Fest

A Fusion of History and Modernity Makes Bangkok a Perfect Meeting Spot

In this city of contrasts, glass skyscrapers stand behind century- old temples. Street food vendors sling steaming noodles along roadways while tucked-away restaurants serve multicourse, Michelin-level cuisine. Roadways jam with cars as jewel-toned tuk tuks whizz through the gridlock. Long considered a tourist mecca, Bangkok also makes for a dynamic, budding location for corporate travelers.

Remarkable Medellín

Visiting Medellín in Colombia: The Country of Beauty is like stepping into a fantastic story — literally, as the city in the Western Colombian Andes region inspired Disney’s Encanto. Here, valleys, the world’s tallest palms, vibrant communities, colorful houses, garden-like balconies and more prove reality is more picturesque than anything on film. And it’s especially more tempting following Medellín’s remarkable transformation, shedding its troubled past and reawakening as a city of innovation, art, cultural richness, modern infrastructure, thriving tourism and resiliency.
