As a pizza snob with a lot of opinions about different styles and restaurants, I was not interested in trying the “new” De Lorenzo’s Tomato Pie in Yardley, Pennsylvania. The original, located in the Chambersburg section of Trenton, New Jersey, was a local landmark and a personal favorite. The impossibly thin and crispy crust was always on point, and I rarely strayed from my favorite version, the original tomato pie.

Once the Trenton location closed in 2012, I swore the other location’s pizza wasn’t the same (with zero personal experience to back up that claim) and refused to go to the Robbinsville, New Jersey location, or the other in Yardley, when it opened in 2018.

Now, driving by the Yardley location several times a week, as it is minutes from our office, I finally caved and tried it and realized the family recipe is still intact, no matter the location.

My friend and I split the classic heirloom tomato salad and a plain, large pie and devoured both. The pizza had the same super-thin, crispy crust; square-cut slices; and smashed plum tomatoes that fall off the slice when I do my best to fold it.

Like I said, I’m a snob.
