A couple weeks ago, I had a cryotherapy session at Restore Hyper Wellness. Last week, I returned, with my personal trainer friend Tommy Else, for a Photobiomodulation session.
Photobiomodulation, or PBM Therapy, uses near-infrared light to aid recovery and to reduce pain, inflammation and edema. Working at the cellular level, PMB stimulates repair and normalizes cell function.
Restore Hyper Wellness has state-of-the-art NovoTHOR PBMT and Joovv devices that deliver only red and near-infrared wavelengths. These non-ionizing wavelengths do not damage cells.
Once again upon arriving, I was greeted warmly by wellness rep May Lee, athletic trainer Jenni and nurse Ajla. I was led to the PMB room, and the PMB panels were set for 14 minutes. I was directed to undress to my comfort, with the goal of exposing as much skin as possible. I stood between two full-body PMB panels.
With Alexa providing music, the time went quickly. I felt a warm sensation, the result of increased circulation. There is no actual heat produced.
At the end of the session, I did not realize it right away, but my legs felt fresh. This week I averaged eight miles of street running a day, and my legs were naturally sore. When I got home, I noticed the soreness lessened.
I enjoyed the cryotherapy session more because it was an incredibly exhilarating cold rush, but both had excellent aftereffects. Cryotherapy left me feeling fresh and revitalized. With PMB, it was more of a reduction of lingering aches.
As I wrote in a previous blog, Restore Hyper Wellness has many services, and I am enjoying working my way through the menu. I haven’t decided my next treatment, but I am looking forward to another new experience.

Santiago is divided into comunas (districts) and then into barrios (neighborhoods). Founded in 1541 by Spain, Santiago suffered repeatedly from earthquakes, floods and civil disorder. It is no wonder its barrios are unique and distinct — some with steep terrain crawling up into the foothills of the Andes, some sitting close to the urban center and boasting busy cafés, music clubs, restaurants, food markets, and new residential and commercial high-rises.
