A few months ago, I interviewed Patricia Kara for Talking Travel on Global Traveler. Television host, actress and model Kara had recently released her book Dream On … Now Deliver. Tonight I caught up with Kara at her book-signing event.
Held at Plateia Mediterranean Kitchen in Glenview, the event was filled with family, friends and fans. Originally from Chicago, Kara always enjoys a big reunion when she returns. It was a lively crowd, but all were very patient, awaiting their turn to have a moment with Kara, who made sure to make everyone feel special.
Kara’s book is “the no-nonsense guide to achieving success in the entertainment industry.” Relying on her 30 years in show business, Kara shares lessons learned and knowledge gained. Despite its show business focus, I found much that could apply to other professions and even personal life. Topics including perseverance, rejection, self-promotion and more can be applied to many aspects of life. Clearly not in show business, I thoroughly enjoyed the book, walking away with some new perspectives.
I actually interviewed Kara 13 years ago at Wizard World. We mostly discussed her time as holder of briefcase No. 9 on television’s Deal or No Deal. When I saw she had a book and I pitched an update interview, Kara responded positively, including, “Travel is my favorite topic.” Her passion for and knowledge of traveling made for a fun interview.
We caught up a bit about our two interviews. Kara stated she is in town for a few days and was planning on attending the Chicago Bears game Sunday. Hopefully she’ll be a lucky charm for the struggling Bears. She signed my book and a picture which will go on my Wall of Fame at home. We hugged before I moved on to allow others to have their time.
As I drove home, I recalled that first interview. I was so inexperienced, but Kara was generous with her time. Little did I know that years later, our paths would cross again in a couple wonderful experiences.

Apr 16, 2025Grand Hotel Des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz Review
Switzerland’s most storied ski town (the one, in fact, credited with pioneering the very concept of Alpine tourism), St. Moritz legendarily attracts the rich, the famous, celebutantes and the wannabes. Yet, there’s something compellingly earthy about the place, a town on a lake rich with natural environs, where winter sports and summer activities draw athletes and mountain lovers aplenty. As at the mountain restaurants (where some arrive by chairlift rather than muscle movement, and all types of diners and imbibers convene), Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz straddles the old and new, the lavish and the understated. The hotel, one of St. Moritz’s oldest, opened as a spa haven in 1864, set atop a healing mineral spring.
