As the GT team prepares to head to Los Angeles next week to celebrate the GT Tested Reader Survey awards event, I thought I’d share more about an interesting offering I recently learned about in the City of Angels.
Fairmont Century Plaza recently debuted Winter Swiss Chalets, transporting hotel guests and locals to the Alps as Los Angeles’ first après-ski dining experience. Three beautifully built, wooden Swiss chalets sit on The Bar’s outdoor patio.

The chalets boast festive décor while delivering a one-of-a-kind epicurean moment in the midst of the city. A fixed-price menu includes fondues, winter appetizers, holiday cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks. Items include assorted charcuterie, a wedge salad, smoked salmon on potato roesti, short rib croquettes, oxtail soup and pork ribs with sauerkraut and potatoes. The chocolate fondue uses French Valrhona 62 percent Satilia Dark Chocolate and is intended to be shared, with accompaniments of strawberries, pineapple, marshmallows and more. The cheese fondue option blends Emmental, Fontina and Beaufort cheeses served alongside potatoes, crusty bread, vegetables, sausage and more. Menu enhancements include caviar, oysters, shrimp, holiday cookies and other goodies. Try holiday cocktails like Eggnog of the Century, with Pendleton Whiskey, Bacardi 8 Rum, Amontillado Sherry, sugar, whole milk, heavy cream and holiday spices; and Snow Falls on Manhattan Beach, with blanco tequila, Crème de Cacao, lemon and absinthe. Small private fire pits can be reserved with elevated s’mores platters.
