In my last blog, I mentioned my plans to take my little brother and cousin to a Harvest Festival in New York City this past weekend, but things turned out differently.
Instead, I visited them that weekend, and we spent a lovely day in Central Park filled with games, running and tons of laughs. And, of course, pizza! You can’t go to NYC and not try a $1 slice.
However, this past weekend, my boyfriend, friends and I decided to give Oasis Island of Terror in Trenton, New Jersey, a try. They have been open every Friday and Saturday this month, and the ticket window usually opens at 5:30 p.m. and closes at 10 p.m. (tickets are purchased on site, daily). They do not close until every customer has completed their attraction(s), which allows people to get there as late as 9:45 p.m. for a really spooky tour.
Since we were a group of five, some of us got there around 7:15 p.m. in case there was a long line for tickets and, luckily, there wasn’t. Of course, we still managed to mistakenly stand in one of the attraction’s lines for about 10 minutes before we realized that wasn’t the ticket line (it kind of helped us choose which attraction we wanted to try, anyway).
They have three attractions: The Woods Have Eyes ($25) and Blackout ($15) are walking tours through haunted trails, whereas Sawmill is the 20-minute escape room. There is also an option to combine The Woods Have Eyes and Blackout for $35. We opted for The Woods Have Eyes, as most people were in line for this before opening time.
This trail is supposed to be 1.5 miles long and take about 30–45 minutes to complete, depending on your pace. I believe we managed to finish it in 20 minutes, ha! While it wasn’t super scary, I thought it was pretty cool and detailed. The trails were sick and super dark — like impossible to see anything when you add fog to the equation — and at some point the American Horror Story theme song came on, which set the perfect mood.
Now that I know more about the escape room, I’d like to go back and give it a try. What spooky activity did you partake in this weekend?

The glittering green pines and burst of jasmine lake beyond almost made me forget about the aches in my legs that slowly developed after the promised hour-long hike ran into the third hour. And, oh, there were my hips, showing up to remind me I was no longer in my 20s. I didn’t mind, though, because the vision that surrounded me during our guided walk through Garibaldi Park to Cheakamus Lake in Whistler, British Columbia, with Mountain Skills Academy and Adventures proved worthy of a thousand postcards.

Remarkable Medellín
Visiting Medellín in Colombia: The Country of Beauty is like stepping into a fantastic story — literally, as the city in the Western Colombian Andes region inspired Disney’s Encanto. Here, valleys, the world’s tallest palms, vibrant communities, colorful houses, garden-like balconies and more prove reality is more picturesque than anything on film. And it’s especially more tempting following Medellín’s remarkable transformation, shedding its troubled past and reawakening as a city of innovation, art, cultural richness, modern infrastructure, thriving tourism and resiliency.
