Many national parks have free admission every day, but as part of National Public Lands Day, more than 100 national parks that normally charge entry fees will waive them this Saturday, Sept. 24. This is one of a few “fee free” days every year and is a great opportunity for some free sightseeing.
The parks also will be offering discounted rates on concessions, tours and other events on that day. Even if you don’t live near a national park, some other places, such as lodging and restaurants, offer discounts in association with the day.
Additionally, there are more than 2,000 events where volunteers will be able to give a little back to nature. Activities include cleanup, planting and restoration. Volunteers will get vouchers for another day of free admission. This volunteer effort will equal approximately $15 million in improvements.
With summer ending, this is a great way to soak in some of the beauty of our national parks. Whether you are out for fun and adventure or you want to give a little back to nature, this is the day to do it.
