My Escape to Luckie Lady in OBX

by John Wroblewski

Sep 18, 2024

With a cold Chicago winter looming, my thoughts turn to an escape. Last year I found a great getaway in the Outer Banks.

The perfect beach rental home, Luckie Lady came with fantastic ocean views, a private beach deck and a gazebo across the street. With five bedrooms and six bathrooms, it easily held the 10 of us and, being dog-friendly, our group’s four dogs.Luckie Lady Luckie Lady Luckie Lady Luckie Lady Luckie Lady

It also had all the modern conveniences including central AC and heat, washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, ceiling fans, seven TVs, four DVD players, wireless internet and an EV charger. A deck and hot tub highlighted the top level. It was hard to leave this comfortable gem, but the beautiful beach, just 100 feet away, enticed me daily.Kitty HawkKitty Hawk

Although I didn’t want to leave the property, the group voted to dine elsewhere on occasion. We found a winner in Ocean Boulevard Bistro & Martini Bar. Upscale yet casual, OB Bistro offered a diverse and deep menu. The pan-seared sea scallops were so amazing, I had them twice more during our stay.

The area also has plenty to do for the more adventurous and curious folks. The Wright Brothers National Monument, Monument to a Century of Flight, historic lighthouses (some of which are rumored to be haunted), golf courses and Kitty Hawk Woods Reserve are just a few points of interest. There are also antique shops and more. There is something for everyone.

I almost hated to share my discovery, but I already made our return reservations for early next year. My group has outings planned, but it’s always hard tearing me away from that beach area.
