Sometimes the word “millennial” is associated with the dissolution of the past’s ideologies and practices; in my case I consider myself an “in-between” millennial. I’m consistently on the precipice of past and present and, at times, yearn for some of the analog ways in which we conducted business or communicated. This generation of millennial travelers will visit destinations our parents may never have planned, whether that was a state-of-affairs reason, economic hardships or difficulties of transit. The millennial generation is ready to explore!
The world does not seem disconnected when it comes to the travel industry these days. If one has an interest in flying to a remote area of the world, chances are through private charter or even a premium airline, there will be a way to get there. The digital age has brought about real-time offers and deals which give the buyer the option of flexibility with booking a reservation. I personally find it is crucial to both build and support my goals on a professional and personal level while still seeing the world. My current position affords me the opportunity to connect with wonderful people from all over the world and the gift of seeing places I had only dreamed I’d ever see in person. (See me in Egypt below!)
As a millennial traveler, my goals are always changing when it comes to where I want to travel and how I want to get there. I will say this millennial values three things very highly when considering my travel destinations, and I’d like to share them with you:
- Value of the Experience: When I am selecting a new destination to explore or a place I’ve previously visited, I find it is always important to recognize what I will receive by taking the time to experience it. Will it be mentally enriching? Is it a leisurely experience to re-charge my batteries? What will this journey bring with it?
- Budget: This is evaluated after destination for me so I can figure out the best way to have a quality experience; build brand loyalty with a hotel chain, airline or rental car company; and make my investment and time be a lovely one.
- Time: Let’s face the facts here. Time is relative … but I always find it is important to evaluate and find a proper balance in life. Work, family, friends and you all need care and time, so when the travel bug is biting and time is limited, it may take one back to Step One to re-think and re-prioritize the destination list. Don’t put everything off, but as a millennial sometimes we feel the need to get everything accomplished this second. Take some time to reflect and cherish what you can do now, and dream for the future.
Many companies and organizations I speak to express interest in connecting with millennials, and they are taking steps to do so in an authentic and productive way. FXExpress Publications, Inc. strives to connect with this demographic as well through our brand Trazee Travel, which can be explored online at www.trazeetravel.com. I highly recommend you take some time to explore the fantastic editorial content. It is truly a haven for the explorative millennial who has the world at their feet, ready to check destinations off the list, securing loyalty and brand status and taking time to nurture their travel goals.
