McConkey’s Market & Karla’s

by Yasser Ogando

Sep 26, 2019

When I pictured how my summer would go, I didn’t really think I would attend as many markets and festivals as I have in the past few months. Although I miss the city life a little bit, I truly enjoy how laid-back and interesting our new hometown is; plus, there is always something going in Bucks County.

Although we weren’t able to attend the Renaissance Faire, we had a great time showing a dear friend who was visiting some bits and pieces of the town. Our latest adventure led us to the Van Sant Crybaby bridge — always a creepy experience — and the annual McConkey’s Market in Washington Crossing before a delicious late lunch at Karla’s in New Hope and, last but not least, a nice walk across the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge in hopes of finding the abandoned train pictured below.

Besides spending time with our friend, the highlight of my day was a gorgeous vintage travel trunk we found at the market for only $30! It was love at first sight; and while it may not be the best travel suitcase nowadays, it’ll sure make a great coffee table for our apartment. There were great booths showcasing lots of delicate, vintage furniture and home décor. I can’t wait for next year’s event!

As the weather gets cooler — I’m still holding out hope it will — and the pumpkins start to make an appearance, I anticipate a busy fall ahead. What are some of your favorite local fall festivals?

Remarkable Medellín

Visiting Medellín in Colombia: The Country of Beauty is like stepping into a fantastic story — literally, as the city in the Western Colombian Andes region inspired Disney’s Encanto. Here, valleys, the world’s tallest palms, vibrant communities, colorful houses, garden-like balconies and more prove reality is more picturesque than anything on film. And it’s especially more tempting following Medellín’s remarkable transformation, shedding its troubled past and reawakening as a city of innovation, art, cultural richness, modern infrastructure, thriving tourism and resiliency.
