Getting to know my own backyard has always been fun, and I never get tired of the Santa Monica Pier and its classic Ferris wheel view. Do you know where to get one of the best views while also supporting local artists? Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. I was lucky to visit recently, and the weather was just like in the movies: clear skies for days and sunshine kissing your face.
I was impressed the property never suspended operations through the pandemic. Like any hotel during this time, there were struggles, but they have come out of it stronger than ever. They’ve secured a partnership with East Coast coffee roaster For Five Coffee Roasters. They’ve introduced wonderful amenities like the Poolside Concierge, making your pool experience that much more relaxing with a chilled drink and snack as needed.
I also met with the lovely Younes Atallah, general manager, who shared some of his team’s passion projects aimed at supporting local artists and engaging the community. The business community of Santa Monica is a pretty tight-knit group, and the support that goes into the projects they pursue is palpable. For example, the hotel’s newly launched The Artist Collective brings in local artists’ perspectives in a variety of mediums. During my visit there was a giant sand sculpture of Santa Monica and a modern canvas depicting the city versus the beach. It sets a great mood walking in, as if the property itself wasn’t already impressive.
We know one of the things that makes our travels enjoyable is the personal touch. And that is exactly what you’ll find at every touchpoint you have with the property. If you find yourself in the area, you’ll want to take advantage of its Happenings; poolside movie and brunch, anyone? Want some time on the beach? Take advantage of the beach concierge service.
They even let me in on a fantastic initiative they’re activating this summer for the three Southern California properties, Loews Hollywood Hotel, Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel and Loews Coronado Bay Resort. Take the family or the girls out for a weekend before Labor Day, and any direct two-night stay (or longer) bookings will go toward donations to DonorsChoose to help fund school projects in Hollywood, Santa Monica and Coronado.
If you make your way to the Loews Santa Monica, I’d love to hear about your experience! Email me at maria.angeles@globaltravelerusa.com.

A small gathering forms at the tower’s base as the clock prepares to announce the hour — an event heralded by the crowing of a golden rooster, music and a dance of mechanical figures that include an assortment of jolly bears.
