Hotels, Hotels, Hotels

CHICAGO, USA – JUNE 28, 2013: Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago. It is 423m tall and was finished in 2009. As of 2013 it is 2nd tallest building in Chicago and 3rd tallest in the USA.

One of the perks of being a distribution specialist for Global Traveler magazine is that I get to see all of the best hotels every month. Even the busiest business traveler doesn’t go into as many hotels a month as I do.

I was in the new Avenue Hotel as it made its transformation from its previous owner. It presented some inconveniences, but it was worth it to witness the improvements that were made. The building still houses offices in addition to the hotel, but now separate entrances help create a more posh feel to the hotel lobby.

Back when I was in college at DePaul, I often went to the Chicago Sun-Times building. I was sad to see it demolished, but fascinated to see the rise of Trump Chicago. Everything about this hotel shouts luxury. Watching it rise up as one of the new great Chicago landmarks and seeing the crowds that follow has been fun.

On the subject of fun, I have to mention the Hotel Allegro. This hotel has a unique decor. The combination of colors and textures are unforgettable. Every time I go there, I have to poke my head into their piano bar, where something interesting is always happening.

The Palmer House (a Hilton property) is a historic treasure, yet it is filled with modern beauty and convenience. The variety and amount of events (conventions, luncheons, etc.) in their ballrooms ensures an interesting mix of patrons.

I was able to watch the InterContinental Hotel become one of the premier hotels in the O’Hare area. This new gem sits in Rosemont, IL, near the convention center and a very short ride away from O’Hare.

Frequently visiting these hotels presents another opportunity. Sometimes the hotel insiders will give me tips on upcoming events. I had the inside scoop on one new hotel and was able to secure Global Traveler placement at the Concierge Center before any other magazine.

People often ask me if all of the hotels start to blend in after a while. Truthfully, the answer really is no. Each hotel is unique and stands out for its own reasons.
