The FXExpress Publications, Inc. team sends its love and support for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Updates
As of yesterday, the National Weather Service announced Harvey set a record for total rainfall from a single tropical cyclone in the continental United States. Texas weather stations reported 48 inches of rainfall, and more is expected through Friday, with sustained winds near 45 mph.
Thirteen storm-related deaths were reported, including Sgt. Steve Perez, 60, a veteran officer who died while driving on duty. The Houston Police Department has worked tirelessly, rescuing more than 3,500 people from flooding since the storm began.
More than 9,000 are gathered in the George R. Brown Convention Center, the Houston area’s largest shelter, where the American Red Cross and other volunteer organizations are providing water, dry clothes and food. Other shelters opened, with more planning to open in Dallas, San Antonio and Austin.
Travel is at a standstill at Houston’s two main airports — George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby. All roads leading to both airports are closed due to flooding, and commercial operations ceased until further notice. The Houston Airport System advised passengers to keep in touch with air carriers for up-to-date information regarding flights.
Several travel companies are stepping up to support safety, care and recovery efforts.
Airbnb waives service fees for those affected by the disaster.
United Airlines will provide up to 3 million bonus miles to customers who contribute to designated relief organizations and will match the first $100,000 raised to support those in need. MileagePlus members can donate to the American Red Cross, AmeriCares, Airlink or Operation USA through United’s fundraising page.
Delta Air Lines is offering waivers for canceled flights. If a customer’s flight is not canceled, the airline allows a one-time change without fees for flights scheduled to travel to, from or through certain cities affected by the storm.
American Airlines is partnering with the American Red Cross, allowing AAdvantage members to make a donation to support Harvey relief. Through Sept. 24, American Airlines offers members 10 miles for every dollar donated after a minimum $25 donation.
Marriott International is contributing $250,000 to the American Red Cross, and members of Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest and The Ritz-Carlton Rewards loyalty programs can donate points as contributions to the American Red Cross.
