Christmas looks much different this year. For the last several years my husband and I went on vacations on or around Christmas. We’ve been to New Orleans (three times, twice with friends); Austin, Texas; and Kansas City, Missouri. After a few cold experiences, including a 19-degree day in Kansas City when we planned to go on a walking tour, we thought 2020 might be a good year to head to the Caribbean or another warm-weather destination. Like many travelers, 2020 had different plans for us. While we will spend Christmas at home in New Jersey this year, I’ve been thinking back to some Christmas travel highlights from the last few years:
- Sampling a variety of Kansas City barbecue
- Exploring the eclectic neighborhoods of Kansas City
- Going on walking tours in New Orleans, including a voodoo tour and a ghost tour
- Christmas morning Mass at St. Louis Cathedral
- Live music in Austin
- Waiting in line for five hours to eat Franklin Barbecue
While it’s hard to predict what next year will bring, I’m already daydreaming of a 2021 Christmas vacation. Some places on the top of my list include Sedona, Arizona; Turks & Caicos; St. Lucia; Banff National Park; Italy; or Spain.
