This weekend is Washington Crossing Spring Brewfest. This annual event sells out each year and brings together history and beer in a way only possible where Washington crossed the Delaware.
If you live in or around Bucks County, this is one of the big local brew festivals in the area. Despite loving everything this festival represents — craft beer, history, local business — I have never actually attended it — until this year.
The festival takes place on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River in the upper portion of Washington Crossing State Park. I have visited the park for the traditional reenactment of the Christmas Eve crossing and for various other events, but never for this specific one.
The festival serves a few purposes. It doesn’t only serve as an excuse to get together with friends in the middle of a nice spring day, but it also exposes festival-goers to beer and breweries they might never have tried before. Finally, and most important, by attending festivals put on by nonprofits, you’re supporting the mission of educating the community and preserving the colonial character of the park.
Another facet of this specific event I am looking forward to is the re-enactors who attend the event in full colonial garb. I am hoping to grab a photo with George Washington himself while the event is going on!

Imagined and conceived by Welsh singer-performer Charlotte Church, The Dreaming is a wellness retreat located on 47 acres in the rugged Elan Valley of Wales. Named Spa of the Year by the United Kingdom’s The Times and Sunday Times 50 Best U.K. Spas, the property’s location in an area often referred to as the Welsh Lake District adds to a sense of charm and serenity. At the center of the property sits Rhydoldog House, which began as a 15th-century Cistercian monastery, and later became the home of designer Laura Ashley and her family.
