High Water Festival

by Katie Skrzek

Apr 26, 2019

My husband and I recently traveled to Charleston to visit friends and attend a music festival, the third annual High Water Festival. It was the first time we all attended the two-day event.

The festival was held at Riverfront Park, near the Charleston Naval Complex. Performances started at 12:30 p.m. on both days, so we slowly made our way to the festival around that time. There were two stages, and performers took turns playing, so there was a constant stream of music. Our group set up blankets on a small hill between the two stages so we were easily able to bounce between both. There was a nice mix of local bands and bigger acts playing throughout the day. Some performance highlights included Phosphorescent, Lord Huron, Jenny Lewis and Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

In addition to great performances, the festival hosted amazing culinary options. Local food trucks and businesses set up shop, offering delicious bites. Over the two days we enjoyed food from Lewis Barbecue, Roti Rolls and Tamashii Food Truck.

Besides being a fun time with friends, the event was well-organized. From parking to on-site facilities, the festival was smooth and enjoyable. We all hope to return to the festival next April.
