Girls’ Day

by Mary Melnick

Jun 19, 2024

A couple weeks ago, my friends and I went out for a girls’ day in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, one of our favorite places for a day out. In summer, Phoenixville blocks off its main street, Bridge Street, so restaurants and bars can put out more outdoor tables for guests to enjoy summer temperatures. Even though we like to go there any time of year, we especially like to go in summer to take advantage of all the outdoor seating.

We started our day at a winery called Vintner’s Table by Folino Estate. After looking over the menu, we all decided to try different wine flights. I picked the sangria flight, which came with a lemon, peach, honeysuckle and rhubarb. I started with rhubarb because I thought it was going to be my least favorite, but, to my surprise, it was good and even ended up being one of my favorites. After we finished our flights, we all wanted to try a different type of wine, so I ordered a glass of the Pinot Grigio, which I really enjoyed. winery winery

After the winery we decided it was time to go get some food, so we went to our favorite place, Bistro on Bridge. We ordered a bunch of different appetizers to split including fries, cheesesteak egg rolls, a Bavarian pretzel and mozzarella sticks. Once we were done eating, we headed to the upstairs part of the restaurant where there are games, a bar, picnic tables and music. While we were upstairs, we had a gossip session and a drink before heading over to another favorite, Molly Maguire’s.

Typically, Molly’s has a good live band, fun dancing and a lively atmosphere. Since we got there a little earlier than normal, the live band hadn’t started yet so we took advantage of the nice weather and went outside.

I love a good girls’ day and was so glad I got to spend some quality time with some of my closest friends.

Escape to Tahiti for a Captivating Island-Hopping Cruise

The 118 islands of French Polynesia reveal themselves layer by fascinating layer, with the spirit of mana (vital force) linking them all the way from Tahiti to the remote reaches of the Marquesas. This is part of the world best savored on a journey that dives as deep into culture as natural beauty, both above and below the water’s surface. A cruise makes it easy to cover a lot of ground while unpacking just once (and sneaking in some work done in comfort, too, during at-sea days). And cruising offers particular appeal within this semi-autonomous French territory sprawling across nearly 2 million square miles of ocean and covering five archipelagos.

The Shelbourne Review

Facing the vast St. Stephen’s Green in the heart of Dublin sits the iconic and historic The Shelbourne. Few hotels master the perfect blend of history and luxury, but The Shelbourne gets it right. The site of the signing of the Irish Constitution in 1922 granting the Republic of Ireland its freedom from England, The Shelbourne has hosted its fair share of notable figures, from Michael Collins to Princess Grace Kelly to John Ford, the latter of which was the name of my suite.
