Greetings from Denver, Colo.! I am here with my colleagues at the annual Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) convention. It’s a great show that helps us predict the travel trends to come and showcases the best of the best in the world of business travel. The official numbers aren’t out yet, but the show is having a great turnout; my guess is a minimum of 5,000 participants from around the globe. The opening ceremony kicked off at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The beautiful grounds were host to the attendees enjoying great food, drinks and company. Last night we attended a great party hosted by Star Alliance at the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum. I even climbed into a fighter jet for a photo op and quickly learned that a dress was not the appropriate attire for getting into that seat! Looking ahead at the year in travel, it’s good to see on the trade show floor that premium travel is without a doubt a priority. On the domestic front, ancillary fees are here to stay says the CEO of US Airways, Doug Parker. It was refreshing to hear international carriers are working to look after their consumers on all levels. The Chairman of Hainan Airlines, Mr. Wang Yingming, expressed his positive outlook for his company at a CEO panel. Mr. Yingming noted that there are no ancillary fees, and their premium product is most definitely a priority. What is to come in 2012? Only time will tell, but it’s great to see the professionals of the travel industry come together to work towards a prosperous future for the consumer and the business world of travel. — Alex Young, vice president and associate publisher
