Over the weekend I thought I would finally be back watching a softball game at Northwestern. Due to a paperwork snafu, I could not get my ticket. Not to be denied, I watched the game from a bit of a distance without breaking any rules. Unfortunately, the Wildcats lost a double header to the University of Minnesota.
As I watched from the outfield grandstand area, I felt a renewed sense of optimism. I saw young athletes playing the game they love after last season abruptly ended. The sun was shining, parents filled the stands, and the sounds from the game filled the air. Despite the losses and the ticket miscommunication, it was a great day.
After the games, I met a friend at El Nuevo Tipico. Serving excellent Mexican food since 1957, El Nuevo Tipico is one of my neighborhood favorites.
I usually have a food favorite in every restaurant, and I stick with it. At Nuevo El Tipico, I have worked my way through the menu a few times. This time, I ordered chicken quesadillas. They were as delicious as always. We also enjoyed the gooey queso dip appetizer.
The food is always great, but I would go there just for the chips and salsa. The chips are hearty. The salsa has the perfect heat and thickness. Give me a frozen margarita and the chips and salsa and I am happy.
Although the day did not go as planned, I drove home feeling positive. Things are getting back to normal, and summer is coming.

Remarkable Medellín
Visiting Medellín in Colombia: The Country of Beauty is like stepping into a fantastic story — literally, as the city in the Western Colombian Andes region inspired Disney’s Encanto. Here, valleys, the world’s tallest palms, vibrant communities, colorful houses, garden-like balconies and more prove reality is more picturesque than anything on film. And it’s especially more tempting following Medellín’s remarkable transformation, shedding its troubled past and reawakening as a city of innovation, art, cultural richness, modern infrastructure, thriving tourism and resiliency.
