Recently I experienced my first Monster Energy AMA Supercross at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. I personally had never been to a Supercross event before but decided to go since it would probably be a neat experience. I went with my boyfriend, Sawyer, who enjoys Supercross and had been an avid fan growing up.
The races started around 7 p.m., so we decided to arrive early to get stadium food and drinks before the event started. After going through check-in, we found a drink station where I got a Tequila Sunrise and he got a draft beer. I went to a concession stand and got a large pretzel with cheese, and the gentleman behind me kindly paid for mine. Sawyer wanted something a little heavier, so he went to Land & Sea and got the signature bacon cheeseburger with fries on the side. I, of course, had some fries.
After eating and checking out the stadium, we finally found our seats. The atmosphere was super laid-back, with country and rock music in the background. The stadium was packed with many Supercross fans in attendance to watch their favorite rider. After many qualifying races, the 450sx races began with a loud start and each rider trying to get out in front to lead the pack. The riders were quick on the bikes around each tight turn, trying to not crash or fall behind. A couple riders did lose their balance and took turns too quickly and ended up crashing, causing the other riders to go around them. Luckily, all riders that crashed during the race were okay.
After many laps of fighting for first place, Florida native Malcolm Stewart ended up being the winner for the AMA Supercross Tampa 450sx race. As Stewart crossed the finish line, flames went up while he was mid-air with his fist pumped, showcasing his victory. After his big win, I found out it was his first 450sx career win. I am sure he and his fans were ecstatic.
Overall, the event was a great experience. I got to learn more about the sport of Supercross and spend the evening with Sawyer. I was also happy to see Stewart pull off his first win in his home state. Supercross may have recruited a new fan!
