Everglades Holiday Park

by Andrew Risch

Jul 28, 2017

Over the weekend, I took a trip to Florida to visit an old friend from high school. We only had a few days, so we wanted to make the best of the trip. After a few hours of throwing ideas around, we decided to go to Everglades Holiday Park.

Everglades Holiday Park is an airboat tour and crocodile reservation that, oddly enough, sells crocodile bites at its restaurant. The airboat ride was pretty incredible; I didn’t know something so large could be so maneuverable. Our airboat captain, Captain Rocky, explained to us two Cadillac engines power the boat and were made of lightweight aluminum to keep weight down.

On our trip out into the Everglades, we were lucky enough to see five different crocodiles, and I happened to get pictures with a few as well.

After the airboat tour, we went to the show pit to watch the Gator Boys put on a crocodile show. The Gator Boys have their own show and are popular in their field, as they pride themselves on being one of the only rescue trappers in the state of Florida.

The show was pretty good, with a few corny jokes and some interesting stunts. It was included with the airboat ticket, so we decided it was worth the 15 minutes, and we were glad we did.

Overall, my Everglade experience was a great success. I would recommend the experience to anyone who isn’t completely turned off by large, cold-blooded reptiles!
