Last month, I visited Florida’s Treasure Coast and three theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort. After enjoying the balmy beach weather and warm ocean temperatures, my family and I went inland to stay two nights at WorldQuest Orlando Resort and have fun at Disney World.
We booked WorldQuest Orlando Resort because of its convenient location to the theme parks and condominium-style accommodations. We arrived early, hoping to pack in a full day at Epcot, and were able to check in immediately. The hotel upgraded our accommodations free of charge to a superior three-bedroom suite with a spacious living room, full kitchen and screened-in balcony overlooking the resort’s large pool. We brought our luggage to our condo and traveled the one mile down the road to Epcot.
My family and I went to Epcot specifically for the 17th annual International Food & Wine Festival. Featuring 29 international food and beverage marketplaces and several culinary events and demonstrations at the Festival Center, the festival opened this year in late September and concluded November 12th.
Prior to tasting wine and food samples, we had a lot of fun on the rides at the park, especially on Soarin’, a giant IMAX projection ride that simulates hang gliding over various areas of California. The smell of pine trees filled the room as we soared over Yosemite, and we could smell the oranges as our feet dangled over acres of orange groves.
We then spent several hours experiencing the cultures and tasting the cuisines of 11 countries. We visited all of the countries and bought food and drinks in seven countries. Our favorite wine was the Selbach-Oster Riesling Spatlese, a sweet, fruity wine made in Germany. We savored our favorite dish of the day, bubble and squeak, in the United Kingdom as we watched the nightly fireworks display, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.
With rides, concerts, fireworks and menus for kids and adults, the Food & Wine Festival has something for everyone, and I hope to be able to go again in fall 2013.
