With COVID-19 still in full view across the country and daily, nationwide protests against police brutality now reaching far corners of the world, 2020 might be a year of progress. If necessity is the mother of invention, our day to day may look brand-new by the time we are done, beginning with how we travel, see the world and interact with each other.
TSA rules and regulations have already changed quite a bit, as travelers are required to wear masks and face coverings, utilize sanitation stations and practice social distancing wherever possible. I personally don’t think I will mind many of the changes.
Some cities you’ve visited might look different, missing monuments and murals you might not have thought twice about before, like the Frank Rizzo mural that was recently painted over in the Italian Market section of South Philadelphia. I’m personally looking forward to seeing what new neighborhood-centric concept they come up with, as the diverse locale deserves a fresh coat of paint.
While we might want to rush through to the good part — when everything is back to “normal” — we can’t, especially since it will probably be a lot different when we get there.

The glittering green pines and burst of jasmine lake beyond almost made me forget about the aches in my legs that slowly developed after the promised hour-long hike ran into the third hour. I didn’t mind, though, because the vision that surrounded me during our guided walk through Garibaldi Park to Cheakamus Lake in Whistler, British Columbia, with Mountain Skills Academy and Adventures proved worthy of a thousand postcards.
