Domestic Travel on the Rise

Shenandoah National Park

According to a recent study from travel insurance provider Allianz Travel, U.S. travelers look to resume domestic travel, with particular interest in hotel and resort accommodations. The survey of 4,300 Allianz customers gauged their interest in booking upcoming trips. The study also analyzed consumer behavior on the Allianz website.

Of those surveyed, 59 percent look to domestic destinations for their next trip. Of those, 54 percent plan to fly and 42 percent will drive to their destination. For accommodations, 47 percent will book a hotel, with 27 percent planning to stay with family or friends and only 11 percent booking a short-term rental home. Half of those surveyed said advanced cleaning is the top safety measure that will make them feel safe to travel. Check out the Allianz Travel website for full survey results and more information about methodology.

Shenandoah National Park

While I don’t have any trips, domestic or international, lined up at the moment, I do hope to plan something for the next few months. My husband and I have never been to Maine, so that is on our list, if not for 2020, then for next year. We also discussed a fall hiking trip to Shenandoah National Park and Charlottesville, Virginia, which we did two years ago. I also hope to sneak in a New Jersey shore beach trip or two before summer ends, even if just a daytrip.

Stroll the Captivating Barrios of the Chilean Capital

Santiago is divided into comunas (districts) and then into barrios (neighborhoods). Founded in 1541 by Spain, Santiago suffered repeatedly from earthquakes, floods and civil disorder. It is no wonder its barrios are unique and distinct — some with steep terrain crawling up into the foothills of the Andes, some sitting close to the urban center and boasting busy cafés, music clubs, restaurants, food markets, and new residential and commercial high-rises.
