I’ve noticed in both my business and leisure travels I have used a hotel’s concierge service more and more. Even as booking travel is so easily done on my iPhone apps, I find myself heading down to the lobby for advice or help to arrange spur-of-the-moment activities to make my trip easier or more memorable.
On my trip to Mexico City a few weeks ago, I stayed at Live Aqua Mexico City, an Urban Resort, and reached out to the concierge to ask for help setting up a car service to drive me to meetings and pick me up at the airport. Alberto Ortego was beyond helpful in getting me a rate and an English-speaking driver within just 12 hours; it was booked in 24 hours. He even noticed I had WhatsApp on my work signature and introduced my driver on the text chain and communicated with me throughout my stay, making dinner reservations at a local steak house.
For a business traveler, this sort of attention makes all the difference for a successful trip and made an impression on me.
Maybe this is why I am still on the fence about using Airbnb on any of my business or leisure trips. I like knowing there are dedicated people on property to help with logistics or dinner reservations, etc.
When was the last time you used a hotel’s concierge?
