I am happy to report the adventure to Channel Islands National Park was a great success. As you might remember, in my last installment I took you through a swift overview of what you can enjoy on the islands.

The park’s page promises adventure, and it does not disappoint. It was an experience of a lifetime, to say the least. We checked off all endemic species sightings. Have a look at the adorable island fox here.

We also enjoyed learning about the island raven, much larger than those you’ll come across on the mainland. We learned these are intelligent creatures. They’ve learned to open backpacks, so for those visiting, it is best if you bring a small cooler with you or make use of the bear boxes found throughout the designated areas.

Now for the kayaking portion of the adventure: If you are seeking to enjoy the perimeter and caves, we enjoyed a tour with Santa Barbara Adventure Company. The guides offer a lot of wonderful details about the wildlife and certainly make sure the journey around the caves is approached with safety. We enjoyed tame cave exploring and even got to make it through some open-ocean waves. I honestly felt like I was in a scene out of Cast Away.
