I’d like to consider myself a foodie, especially when I lived in Philadelphia for four years while completing my undergraduate degree at Drexel University. Philly is one of the greatest cities for good food, and I ate that up (literally) in my time living there. Since I moved back into the suburbs, I’ve made it a point to get to the city to return to my favorite yummy spots and explore new ones.
This past weekend I finally had time in my busy schedule (doesn’t that sound crazy these days?) to make my way into the city. My friends and I, who live all over the Tri-State area now, find Philly to be the best meeting spot between us. Now it was Mother’s Day weekend, so we were turned down from a few favorites, including Talula’s Garden and Harper’s Garden, due to full capacity. Finally, we were able to secure a reservation at the famous Moshulu, a floating restaurant built into a historic ship that sits on the Delaware River waterfront in Penn’s Landing. I had never been, so I was quite excited to spend my Saturday morning on board!
The ambience was chic and Instagrammable. We were able to get fun photos with the water in the background and enjoy a unique view while we sipped mimosas and cappuccinos. I ordered the lobster bisque as an appetizer; it was delivered and poured right in front of me, followed by mini waffles topped with banana and whipped cream. The bacon may have been my favorite part, though.
The food in Philadelphia never disappoints, and Moshulu was no exception. I will definitely be back, but not before I can get into the famous Suraya, a popular Lebanese café that never has any open reservations. Until then, bon appétit, Philly!

Mindful drinking with an eye on wellness can mean ordering a zero-proof or low ABV cocktail instead of one that’s boozy and stirred, or slowly savoring one glass of wine instead of tossing back two or three. But sometimes, where you’re sipping a beverage can have just as much of a positive effect on your mind, body and spirit as what’s in your glass.

Apr 30, 2025Relais Villa Porta Review
Tucked into a Lake Maggiore enclave overlooking the Gulf of Colmegna, Relais Villa Porta is an idyllic place to take in a side of the Italian Lakes region that’s different from buzzy Lake Como during high season. In 1820, it was built as a hunting lodge, and by the end of the century, was transformed into an inn by Leopoldo Casnedi. Over time, the surrounding parkland was further enhanced with rare plants collected by Pietro Porta, its second owner and botanist, as well as regular guests wanting to support his efforts. This ensured the inn would ultimately sit pretty within a 10,000-square-meter park surrounding the main villa, a 19th-century Liberty-style greenhouse and original Villa Porta mosaic.
