Bermuda is truly idyllic — home to white-sand beaches, crystal-clear water, lush tropical forests and a rich history palpable from its small neighborhoods to its bustling capital city of Hamilton.
Because of its small size, you can easily take in the whole island on one trip, but you’ll need to be strategic. Roads on most of the island are small and windy, and traffic moves very quickly — potentially dangerous for visitors.
There are only three main roads in Bermuda, so navigating isn’t difficult. Rental cars aren’t an option on the island, but scooters are readily available and fun to drive around once you get the hang of it (just be wary of fast drivers, and don’t forget to drive on the left-hand side of the road!).
The easiest, though one of the most expensive, options in Bermuda is calling a taxi. The call centers are available around the clock and are relatively quick at sending a car. Note: Gratuity is not required but is expected, and fares increase by 25 percent on Sundays.
For a scenic connection between the island’s three cities — Hamilton, St. George and Dockyard — ferries run on convenient schedules for relatively cheap. Visit the website to see the schedule.
In my opinion, though, the best way to get around the entire island is by bus. If you’re not in a huge hurry (which you shouldn’t need to be, considering the small size of the island), the buses are frequent, clean, air-conditioned and a great way to take in the scenic island while moving from one city, town and beach to another. There are two types of bus stops — pink and blue. Pink takes you into Hamilton and blue takes you away from Hamilton.
One piece of advice from personal experience: Avoid visiting Dockyard after dinnertime on nights when cruise ships are not in port. We were recommended a bar in the popular tourist location, but there were no cruises the night we went, and we ended up nearly stranded on a desolate part of the island. Eventually they were able to get a taxi to come get us, but it took a couple of hours.

Nov 21, 2024Immerse in an Invigorating Thermal Journey at Scandinave Spa Whistler
The glittering green pines and burst of jasmine lake beyond almost made me forget about the aches in my legs that slowly developed after the promised hour-long hike ran into the third hour. And, oh, there were my hips, showing up to remind me I was no longer in my 20s. I didn’t mind, though, because the vision that surrounded me during our guided walk through Garibaldi Park to Cheakamus Lake in Whistler, British Columbia, with Mountain Skills Academy and Adventures proved worthy of a thousand postcards.

Remarkable Medellín
Visiting Medellín in Colombia: The Country of Beauty is like stepping into a fantastic story — literally, as the city in the Western Colombian Andes region inspired Disney’s Encanto. Here, valleys, the world’s tallest palms, vibrant communities, colorful houses, garden-like balconies and more prove reality is more picturesque than anything on film. And it’s especially more tempting following Medellín’s remarkable transformation, shedding its troubled past and reawakening as a city of innovation, art, cultural richness, modern infrastructure, thriving tourism and resiliency.
