On my recent trip to Asheville, North Carolina, my group and I wanted to experience the city’s best beer and barbecue. The city is known for its craft beer scene, and there are several popular barbecue restaurants near the breweries. There are about 100 breweries in the Asheville area, and we didn’t get close to all of them, but we did experience some great spots.
On our first day in the city, we visited One World Brewing. The downtown location boasts games like darts and shuffleboard, which we played while enjoying our flights. Later, we stopped at Green Man Brewery. We sat on the rooftop bar of the three-story taproom and took in views of the city. Next, we made our way to the nearby Buxton Hall Barbecue for dinner. My husband and I split chicken with green beans and a rice dish on the side. Next door is Catawba Brewing Company, which hosts a weekly trivia event — our team came in first place!
For lunch one day we stopped at 12 Bones Smokehouse for great barbecue in the River Arts District. Next door is Wedge Brewing Company, where we stopped for an after-lunch beer.
On our last day in Asheville we wanted to stop at a couple more places. We went to Asheville Brewing Company for beers and pizza. Our final stop was a tasting at the Wicked Weed Funkatorium.
There are so many breweries in the city, we didn’t visit every spot on our list. We’re looking forward to our next visit to see more of what Asheville has to offer.
