Bear Down Chicago Bears

by John Wroblewski

Aug 15, 2021

Yesterday was a beautiful day to go to watch the Chicago Bears play their first preseason game. I don’t get too excited about preseason outcomes, but it was still nice to win 20–13.

The Bears started Justin Fields at quarterback. After starring at Ohio State University, Fields was the top pick by the Bears in the 2021 draft. Fields looked good in his first game action for the Bears.Walter Payton statue

I started to write I haven’t seen Bears fans this excited about a quarterback in a long time, but I stopped myself because Bears fans always get excited about the new or next quarterback. That’s what happens when the team hasn’t had a great one in 70 years.

George Halas statuePrior to the game, I stopped by the statues of Hall of Famers George Halas and Walter Payton, located at the south end of Soldier Field. Halas was the founder and owner of the Chicago Bears and co-founder of the National Football League. Payton was the best player I ever saw. For most of my youth, Payton was the Bears team.Aurelios pizza

To celebrate the win, we dined at Aurelio’s Pizza. A longtime favorite of mine, Aurelio’s is always a winner. We shared a couple of pizzas and finished with a delicious dessert. The deep dish cookie is a half-pound chocolate chip cookie baked in a deep-dish pizza pan and topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and mini chocolate morsels.

The Bears open their regular season on Sept. 12 against the Rams in Los Angeles. If the Bears play as good as they did yesterday, it will be an exciting season.
