My husband and I celebrated our eighth wedding anniversary with an overnight getaway to New York City.
After battling traffic, we checked into Sofitel New York. We both were impressed with the size of our room, especially given its location in Midtown Manhattan. We quickly changed and made our way to Gabriel Kreuther for dinner reservations. The two-Michelin-starred French restaurant serves cuisine from the Alsace region of France, with German and American influences. We opted for the tasting menu, which changes often to reflect the best seasonal ingredients. Standouts from the meal included the perfectly baked scallion bread with whipped herb butter, sturgeon with sauerkraut, citrus-cured tuna and smoked duck breast. We were treated to an anniversary wish with our dessert.
After dinner, we made our way to Westside Theater for a production of Little Shop of Horrors. The musical is one of my favorites, and my husband had not seen a theater production in New York City, so it was a perfect choice. Sarah Hyland and Andrew Barth Feldman played Audrey and Seymour, respectively, and both were excellent in the iconic roles. We had fun and enjoyed the show!
We decided to venture to Hudson Yards for breakfast at Russ & Daughters. We have been to the classic smoked fish establishment’s original location, but it was our first time at the location with indoor seating. We both ordered bagels (mine with whitefish, his with lox), and I added a black and white cookie to go. It was the perfect end to our anniversary trip and a great way to begin another married year!

Remarkable Medellín
Visiting Medellín in Colombia: The Country of Beauty is like stepping into a fantastic story — literally, as the city in the Western Colombian Andes region inspired Disney’s Encanto. Here, valleys, the world’s tallest palms, vibrant communities, colorful houses, garden-like balconies and more prove reality is more picturesque than anything on film. And it’s especially more tempting following Medellín’s remarkable transformation, shedding its troubled past and reawakening as a city of innovation, art, cultural richness, modern infrastructure, thriving tourism and resiliency.
