In his Monday blog, Fran Gallagher asked everyone what they would be doing over the Labor Day weekend. While I will be busy Friday through Sunday, it is all very low-key and extremely relaxing.
I will be coming off of a very hectic few weeks of work, plus an unexpected trip to Cleveland for a cousin’s funeral. I have not had a day to do basically nothing in about five weeks.
On Friday, I will be meeting one of my oldest friends at a Cubs game. The Cubs aren’t doing well, but Tom and I will be too wrapped up in silliness to even care much about the game.
Saturday is “cards night” with my best buds. The seven of us try to play a few times a year. Aside from the cards, there are lively (although totally pointless) debates over any bit of minutiae which comes up and silly quarter bets over completely random occurrences during the night.
Sunday is “cards day”, too, but a different type of cards. I will be heading to AU Sports & Memorabilia in search of some baseball cards for my out-of-state friends and a few missing links from my collection. While there, I am likely to be drawn into a trivia contest with Scott Beatty, who runs the store, and any of the regular customers. Time stands still at AU yet also flies by.
Because all of this activity will wear me out, I will spend Monday lounging around my house (in and out). If I get energetic, I might pull some weeds (but don’t count on that).
That is my plan, and it sounds completely perfect to me. Happy weekend to all!
