10 Movies That Take You to Beautiful Places

by Tracey Cullen

May 4, 2020

I was looking for a new movie to watch on Netflix, and I came across one I hadn’t heard of, Changeland, starring Seth Green, Breckin Meyer and Brenda Song. The movie is about a man, played by Seth Green, who finds out his wife is having an affair, so he invites an old friend, Breckin Meyer, to accompany him on a trip to Thailand he had planned for his wife. While I can’t recommend the movie for its plot or fine acting, I did enjoy the gorgeous scenery of Thailand.

So that got me to thinking that my list of movies to watch should include those with beautiful scenery. I came up with a list of 10 movies to satisfy my desire to see new places:

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty — Most of the movie was filmed in Iceland, with a few scenes from Greenland.

The Lord of the Rings — Shot in New Zealand

Mamma Mia, and Mamma Mia Here We Go Again — Both shot in Greece with beautiful backdrops of Skopelos, Skiathos and the Pelion coast

Couples Retreat — Shot in Bora Bora

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel — Filmed mainly in Rajasthan, with Jaipur’s majestic City Palace in India

Blue Crush — Filmed on Oahu, Hawai’i

Into the Wild — If you want to see incredible landscapes of Alaska, this is a good one to watch.

The Way — A movie about traveling the Camino de Santiago Trail in Spain

Under the Tuscan Sun — You’ll want to add Tuscany, Italy, to your bucket list after watching this one.

Out of Africa — An oldie but goodie that will leave you wanting to plan your next trip to Africa

Coffee Warehouse in Rotterdam to Be New Home of Dutch Photo Museum in 2025

There is no doubt Rotterdam is one of Europe’s most design-friendly cities, especially when it comes to restoring historic buildings for modern uses. One example is the early 20th-century Pakhuis Santos, the Santos “coffee” Warehouse in Rotterdam’s port area. This former coffee warehouse is currently being transformed into the new home of Nederlands Fotomuseum (Dutch Photo Museum) and will reopen to the public in mid-2025. The architectural firms involved in the design and transformation include Renner Hainke Wirth Zirn Architekten from Hamburg, together with WDJARCHITECTEN from Rotterdam.
