As major U.S. airlines roll out basic economy seating options and fares on aircraft, Canada decided to follow suit by implementing similar fares for its national and international flights. Air Canada announced new Economy Basic fares as its lowest prices, but as expected, with the fewest perks.
Economy Basic seats will differ from Air Canada’s existing economy tier of seating, also known as Economy Tango, in the following ways:
- Travelers who purchase basic tickets will not be able to alter travel plans or cancel their flight with any amount of refund.
- They will not be eligible to earn miles with their flights.
- They will not be eligible for upgrades.
There are two stark differences between this new economy tier and comparable pricing levels with U.S. airlines: Air Canada will not implement carry-on luggage restrictions for these passengers and elite members can choose their own seats for no extra fee.
