Hotel St. Michael recently opened Fire & Sword, bringing a unique blend of historic charm and modern flair to Whiskey Row in Prescott, Arizona. Fire & Sword was named to honor the town’s storied past and is a living tribute to the resilience of what occurred on site. It was here where Prescott’s “only fireproof hotel” famously burned in 1900.

With Prohibition-era décor and a craft cocktail scene, Fire & Sword give off all the vibes of a speakeasy while offering a gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
The cocktail menu is a nod to the building’s old-world aesthetic but with a modern twist. It features specialty drinks such as the Royal Flush Martini with Wheatley Vodka, X-Rated passionfruit liqueur, cranberry, pomegranate and lime; Aces High with Chambord, Bulleit 95 Rye, sweet and sour, egg white, and bitters; and The Honest Opinion, made with Markers 6 French Oak Bourbon, Ancho Reyes chili liqueur, jalapeno and blueberry syrup.
Wine lovers will be delighted by a carefully curated selection of choices, ranging from Sonoma Chardonnay to French Burgundy. If beer is more your speed, enjoy local brews from companies like Barrio Brewing.

Travelers visiting the speakeasy during the holiday season will have the chance to try some festive holiday sips like the Cinnamon Maple Old Fashioned, Caramel Pecan Coffee and Peppermint Mocha Martini.
“We’re thrilled to reopen Fire & Sword speakeasy, an experience that authentically honors the town’s Whiskey Row and prohibition history,” said Regina Kilmer, general manager. Hotel St. Michael. “This speakeasy is not only a nod to the resilience and spirit of our community but is also a celebration of timeless hospitality. We’ve preserved the historic character of the space while introducing a modern, vibrant atmosphere that invites guests to create new memories in an unforgettable setting.”

Mar 26, 2025Head to Jackson Hole and Revel in the Remote Possibilities
For a city girl like me, stepping into the town square of Jackson, in northwest Wyoming, felt like walking onto a slicker set of the television show Gunsmoke. Wooden sawtooth facades surround Jackson’s Town Square (a.k.a. George Washington Memorial Park). Visitors stroll the boardwalk connecting the Western-style buildings, each with a large window displaying goods, restaurants and art galleries. Iconic arches, assembled with discarded elk antlers from nearby National Elk Refuge, perch on each corner of the town square. Stagecoaches pulled by teams of horses parade other city-dwellers around the park.

Mar 24, 2025Curling Goes Beyond the Olympics
Who knew throwing a stone or rock down a sheet of ice and sweeping it into position on a target would become so popular? Sure, it is intriguing to watch the techniques curlers use to place a stone in the center of a bull’s-eye, or house, particularly when a teammate starts sweeping the ice to further direct that stone. It takes more skill than just a good throw. Strategy, mental focus, balance and, of course, teamwork, are just the beginning of the curling skills needed to win.
