Aldourie Castle offers a unique getaway for travelers. The premier estate is set on the shores of Loch Ness surrounded by the natural woodlands. The castle, a member of The Aficionados, blends historic charm and modern luxury, with origins tracing back to 1626.

The accommodations include 12 uniquely styled suites, each showcasing historical elegance while prioritizing modern day comfort. Suites feature a mix of antique furnishings, Oriental rugs and luxurious fabrics.

Guests can either book the whole castle — all 12 suites — or stay in one of the four additional cottages on the grounds. The cottages sport the castle’s Danish influences and Scottish heritage with soft muted tones.

The Great Hall, a key feature of the castle, has a grand space, perfect for gatherings and showcases an elegant mix of historical and contemporary design. Other public areas in the castle include the billiards room, library and dining room, all furnished with a variety of antiques and art pieces.

The castle’s gardens, imagined by landscape designer Tom Stuart-Smith, offer a range of spaces, including wildflower meadows, classical Victorian walled gardens, and a greenhouse for tropical plants and citrus trees. The gardens offer a beautiful space for outdoor events and activities throughout the year.

With its location in Loch Ness, the castle offers private access to the Loch and other outdoor activities like wild swimming.

Guests staying on the grounds can take advantage of the estates’ services, such as a full staff (including chefs), housekeeping, gamekeepers and logistics, ensuring a bespoke experience for all travelers.

Aldourie Castle Estate sits less than 10 miles from Inverness and is a little more than a three-hour drive from Edinburgh.

Indulge in Wellness in an Oasis of Calm Aboard the New “Queen Anne”

The London traffic seemed to slog even slower than usual. The ride seemed never-ending. The anticipation was palpable. I was on a bus with fellow media, making our way from London’s Leicester Square to Southampton, England, to be among the first to step aboard Queen Anne, the first new cruise ship from Cunard Line in 14 years, just as it joined its sister royalty — Queen Mary II, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria — in plying the globe’s waters. With a capacity for 2,996 guests and measuring 1,058 feet in length, Queen Anne sails itineraries in Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, Western Europe and the Canary Islands.

Discover this Little-Known Gem of a Course in Roatán, Honduras

Roatán was one of those best-kept secrets known only to scuba divers and snorkelers when I first visited it in the 1990s. A skinny little island off the north coast of Honduras, it sits on the world’s second-largest coral reef, an underwater paradise stretching 625 miles along the coasts of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. With its white-sand beaches, clear waters and friendly people, Roatán couldn’t remain undiscovered, but it is still one of the Caribbean’s better preserved and more eco- conscious destinations. It is not entirely immune to hurricanes, but it lies to the west of most major storm tracks.
