Spring is in the air

… but it’s still chilly at the ice-skating rink!

Ice skating always reminds me of fond childhood memories with a bonfire, hot chocolate and tons of fun. It also got me thinking about all the cool (pun intended) places there are to go ice skating.

ice skatingThis list, while not fully inclusive of them all, includes the following frozen oases for you to add to your next winter adventure:

Rockefeller Center, New York City
Eiffel Tower, Paris
Rideau Canal, Ottawa, Canada
Keystone Lake, Keystone, Colorado
Grouse Mountain, Vancouver, British Columbia
Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto
Zermatt, Switzerland
Red Square Rink, Moscow
On the Strip, Las Vegas
Lake Weissensee, Carinthia, Austria
Sommerset House, London
Curry Village Ice Rink, Yosemite National Park
Sokolniki Park, Moscow
Lake Bogstadvannet, Oslo
Tignes, France
Fuji-Q Highland, Japan
Museumplein, Amsterdam
Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland
Vienna Ice Dream, Vienna
Lake Louise, Banff
City Park Ice Rink, Budapest
Dubai Ice Rink, Dubai
McCormick Tribune, Chicago
Winter World, Berlin
Lake Vanem, Sweden
Lac de Joux, Jura Mountains, Switzerland

The next time you’re dusting off your skates and dreaming about pirouettes on ice, add some of these to your list to visit.

Wellness Comes Naturally in Greenville, South Carolina

Strolling through downtown Greenville, South Carolina, it’s easy to see why the city ranks high among the best places to live in the United States: Shops, restaurants and coffee bars line the streets; there are also performance venues, hotels and outdoor plazas. But what really sets this upstate city of just more than 78,000 residents apart are the easily accessible parks and walking trails encouraging both residents and visitors to explore the city by foot or cycle (both handcycles and adaptive bikes are available to rent). Even better, as Greenville continues to grow, city planners and major employers work together to expand these opportunities. When Greenville’s Swamp Rabbit Trail, for instance, opened in 2009, the paved, multiuse pathway ran about 9 miles from the heart of Greenville to the town of Traveler’s Rest.
