As the year comes to a close, we see an influx of “best of” lists. Whether it’s films, music, restaurants or other countdowns, it’s fun to look back and reminisce on the highlights.
Here are a few of my favorite moments from 2018:
— Traveling to new places, including Lisbon, Charleston, Asheville and Healdsburg
— My first experience hiking in a national park at Shenandoah National Park
— Attending the parade for first-time Super Bowl champs, the Philadelphia Eagles
— Celebrating my second wedding anniversary with a museum visit and dinner in Philadelphia
— Visits to wineries, breweries and the New Jersey shore

But what really sets this upstate city of just more than 78,000 residents apart are the easily accessible parks and walking trails encouraging both residents and visitors to explore the city by foot or cycle (both handcycles and adaptive bikes are available to rent). Even better, as Greenville continues to grow, city planners and major employers work together to expand these opportunities. When Greenville’s Swamp Rabbit Trail, for instance, opened in 2009, the paved, multiuse pathway ran about 9 miles from the heart of Greenville to the town of Traveler’s Rest.
