I cannot imagine how annoying it would be if passengers were allowed to use cell phones in flight. According to a recent Nielsen survey commissioned by Turkish Airlines, the overwhelming majority of Americans agree.
Nielsen surveyed more than 8,000 individuals aged 18 years and older who have flown in the last two years. The results of that survey reveal 89 percent of airline passengers in the United States are opposed to mobile phone usage during flight. That number has been on the rise steadily over the last few years.
Passengers aren’t against all wireless technology. Seatback screens for entertainment and information and internet connectivity are two of the most important features for passengers.
The rest of the world is much more in favor of allowing cell phone usage in flight. India (73 percent), China (70 percent) and the U.A.E. (63 percent) lead the pack, with the world average at 51 percent.
In a world full of people who need to be constantly connected, there are few places that are phone-free zones. Airplanes are one of the last remaining silent places. If airlines listen to Nielsen and other similar surveys, flights will remain phone-free.
