Travel is an ever-changing industry, and some exciting things are on the horizon for global accommodations. Leading travel agency Virtuoso collected data from searches and bookings to determine some of the hottest hotel trends to look for in 2018. Here are the top five.

Wow Factor
Cookie-cutter hotels are a thing of the past. Travelers seek distinctive design, unique amenities and personalized experiences in hotels. Examples of cutting-edge hotels to check out this year include Pendry San Diego; São Paulo’s Hotel Unique; Andaz Scottsdale; and The London EDITION.

Ardent Adventure
The allure of adventure continues to be a significant trend in travel, and more hotels build in programs to appeal to activity-seeking globetrotters. For example, Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort in Sri Lanka offers bicycle rentals and whale watching; Tutka Bay Lodge in Alaska offers deep-sea and freshwater fishing, kayaking and glacier trekking; and Utah’s Amangiri offers canyon hikes, horseback riding and hot air balloon rides.

City Sights
Travelers increasingly set their sights on cities to enjoy shopping, spas, art, architecture, entertainment, culinary experiences and more. Take in some of the world’s most popular urban destinations at Hotel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel in Paris; The Langham, London; Four Seasons New York Downtown; and Hoshinoya Tokyo — all offer exceptional guest services including private tours, reservations and VIP experiences.

Exotic Glamping
Demand for luxury camping is on the rise as travelers continue to seek a rustic, peaceful experience while maintaining some familiar comforts and services. At Loisaba Tented Camp in Kenya, guests learn all about wilderness preservation; The Manor at Ngorongoro offers estate coffee tours; and The Ultimate Travelling Camp offers access to India’s mountains, deserts, jungles and festivals.

Family Fun
The 2018 Virtuoso Luxe Report identified family travel as a dominant niche, and it’s proving true. From castles and ice hotels to urban retreats, accommodation options around the world increasingly cater to families. If you haven’t yet, head to whereverfamily.com for the latest in family travel.
